“Let me clarify that any negative effect of illegal content on X in the EU…may be relevant in the context of the ongoing proceedings and of the overall assessment of X’s compliance with EU law” -Thierry Breton, EU’s Internal Market commissioner.
The European Union’s Digital Services Act(DSA) reminded Musk that X of it. This is a new law that regulates what the European Union deems illegal content and disinformation on all social media platforms(i.e. websites).
Please keep in mind that this letter to Musk was in the wake of X.com’s allowing of users’ posting the truth about the civil unrest in the United Kingdom. Their government sees X as a threat and attempted to use their territorial laws in China-style action to dictate what everybody in the whole wide-world can see, hear, read quickly and know.
Thank God that we were smart enough in 1996 to have People of the United States of America (and of merit) create the basic ground rules of this new digital frontier we created for the military in the 1970’s. Unlike the E.U., or any other place in our world, we have CDA of 1996 Section 230 and Internet Network Neutrality that protects our digital freedoms here in America.
INTERNET FREEDOM OF SPEECH: "No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider." -Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act
The above chart is telling. Ad fake news and low information voters voting it all away.
